About RoboSoc

RoboSoc (EXRS) is the Robotics Society at the University of Exeter. We bring together students who are passionate about building, programming, and learning about robots.

Our mission

We exist to make robotics accessible to every student at Exeter, regardless of their background or experience level. Whether you are a Computer Science student who wants to work with hardware, an Engineering student exploring autonomy, or someone from a completely different discipline who is curious about robots, there is a place for you here.

What we do

Workshops

Hands-on sessions covering ROS 2, electronics, 3D printing, computer vision, and more. Beginner-friendly, always.

Build nights

Open lab sessions where we assemble robots, solder circuits, and iterate on designs together.

Competitions

We enter teams into national and international robotics competitions, from line followers to autonomous challenges.

Industry talks

Guest speakers from robotics companies and research labs share what it is like to work in the field.

Research

Collaborate on projects that explore real research questions, from SLAM to reinforcement learning for control.

Our history

RoboSoc was founded in 2025 by Kazybek Khairulla, a Computer Science student at Exeter who saw a gap: there was no student society focused on building and programming robots. After getting the society officially recognised by the Exeter Students' Guild, the founding committee hit the ground running with workshops, build nights, and the society's first collaborative project.

We are still in our first year, and everything is being built from scratch. That is what makes it exciting.

Affiliations

RoboSoc is a registered society under the University of Exeter Students' Guild. We work closely with the Department of Computer Science and collaborate with university labs on hardware and research projects.
